Design Thinking Workshop
Leveraging the principles of design thinking to solve complex business problems and better prepare Maine’s organizations for the future.
A 2018 focus group of Maine employers highlighted the need for training on design thinking for business professionals. Companies and organizations wanted their staff to utilize this skill set to solve business challenges ranging from new product development to improving team collaboration.
Based on employer interest, Maine Center staff decided to develop a short course on design thinking geared toward mid-level professionals. Staff reached out to Richard Bilodeau, a USM lecturer and small business owner, for help developing the course.
The workshop series drew employees from L.L. Bean, Bangor Savings Bank, WEX, Maine Medical Center, and Covetrus, among other enrolled organizations. Through prototyping, storytelling, and case study analysis, participants learned how design thinking concepts can help to solve challenges facing their organization. The course offered optional continuing education units (CEUs).
